P&G Championships Live Blog - Seniors Day 2

The last day of the women's P&G Gymnastics Championships are upon us. Tonight, the national champion will be crowned and the national team will be named.

Most importantly, we will know who will advance to Trials in two weeks in San Jose.

Here are some notes from night one -

Simone Biles is currently the leader (I know HUGE surprise- and I mean that very sarcastically), leading with a ginormous 62.9. She's basically got a healthy two point plus lead over current second place holders, Aly Raisman and Laurie Hernandez who are both holding steady with a solid 60.450.

Laurie has been cool has a cucumber this whole competition. Her coach, Maggie Haney I assume is a follower of the KJ Kindler/Oklahoma philosophy of competition (Basically, don't worry about anything else besides what you can control). It's working so far, Laurie is making a stellar senior debut and she's definitely making a name for herself for a spot on that Rio team. Plus, you gotta love the faces she makes during her floor routines.

Aly is looking as solid as ever and now that she's a little older, she's got more polish to her gymnastics. She's much cleaner on her form than she was in 2012. She's improved her splits in her leaps and her jumps and OMG, that Patterson dismount on beam. That's as close to stuck as I've ever seen anyone do.

Gabby Douglas, the reigning all-around Olympic champ had some issues on night one, mostly with beam. But she still came away from the first night in fourth place and she managed to finish strong on floor.  Gabby's not going to be one to count out in this Hunger Games - I mean, Olympic Selection process. She's a competitor in every sense of the word and she's going to fight tooth and nail to get on that Olympic team (and possibly drop a swarm of tracker jackers on to the heads of the career - oh wait, that was something different).

MyKayla Skinner - sitting in 7th place currently. She's improved her form tenfold on floor. The double double layout actually looks like a double double layout. That's been three years in the making. She's still vaulting her Cheng with only one arm - which apparently, Tim Daggett has no problems with. Her spot on an Olympic team really depends on if Aly Raisman makes it. With Simone Biles basically being a lock - there's really room for one more vault/floor specialist. Besides, she's weak on beam and bars, which could also count against her. But, we shall have to see.

Alyssa Baumann - pretty as ever on beam, but she was really struggling with consistency all night.

Madison Kocian - definitely strong on bars. She could likely make the team just for that reason.

Well - without further adieu, let's follow the competition! Refresh the page every so often to follow along!
