Larisa Iordache, Aliya Mustafina and Vanessa Ferrari Headline Competitors For Stuttgart Cup

Today, the competitor field for the Stuttgart World Cup was announced.

This event is the first of three World Cups in the "official" FIG World Cup series, that also includes the Glasgow World Cup and the American Cup. Last year, the US sent the dynamic and amazing Elizabeth "Ebee" Price who dominated that year and the year before that. This year, the US did not choose to send a competitor.

Athletes are invited based on their rankings at the World Championships. The top 8 finalists are invited and if they turn down a spot, the meet organizers will ask the next four finalists (places 9-12). While the field is missing notable athletes such as Simone Biles, Yao Jinnan and Kyla Ross, there competitors who have accepted this year include silver all-around medalist Larisa Iordache and former world champion, Aliya Mustafina.

Mustafina is attending with her teammate and seventh place finisher, Alla Sosnitskaya. Also attending Jessica Lopez of Venezuela, who placed eighth in the all-around, who is coming off a successful Worlds and a successful Pan American Championships, winning three silvers in the all-around, beam and floor exercise.

The competitors are as follows:

  • Elsabeth Black (CAN)
  • Kim Bui (GER)
  • Vanessa Ferrari (ITA)
  • Lisa Katharina Hill (GER)
  • Larisa Iordache (ROU)
  • Jessica Lopez (VEN)
  • Aliya Mustafina (RUS)
  • Anamaria Ocolisan (ROU)
  • Alla Sosnitskaya (RUS)

The Stuttgart World Cup is being held November 29 in Stuttgart, Germany. Per the Gymternet, there will also be a Team Challenge separate from the all-around competition.
