Lauren Mitchell Returns To Competition at the Doha World Cup

This week at the Doha World Cup, gym fans saw the returns of many favorite athletes, including 2010 World Floor Champion, Lauren Mitchell of Australia.

Lauren was absent from competition in 2013. Per International Gymnast, Lauren took time off due to injury, but mostly, she took time off to focus on her studies as she'd just switched majors. Lauren had told IG her goal was to return in March of 2014. She certainly made good on her promise.

She made her comeback at the Doha World Cup, in Qatar. Lauren's still got it. She opened her floor routine with a super high double arabian rebounding into a stag jump. On her second pass, she goes out of bounds after doing a 1 1/2 twist to punch front, she does a stretched hop and then lands out of bounds. Lauren's still as fierce as ever and it's all over her face.

She placed fourth behind bronze medalist Isabela Onyshko of Canada with a 13.475 (5.5, 8.045 - .1).   She's not doing all the difficulty she can do at this point since worlds are over 6 months out. She will need to adjust her routine some to account for the new floor rules a little better, but overall, a really nice routine for Lauren. Glad to see her back.
