What You Need To Know About the Upcoming US Secret Classic

With the Olympics having concluded almost a year again, it's the beginning of a new quad for the bid for Rio.  The next major competiton is the world championships in Antwerp. For the USA, they need to get through nationals, but to get through nationals, they need to get through the Secret Classic.

Here is some information regarding the classic.

This is the qualifier for the National Championships. National team and world team hopefuls need to get through this first leg of competitions. To move to Nationals, the athletes will need to do well at the classics. Remember all the Chellsie Memmel hoo ha last year? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

Will there be a broadcast on TV?
No, the event will not be broadcast on television, but USA Gymnastics did post on their website that there will be live streaming. Last year, Universal Sports broadcast the competition online. I'm not sure if they are going to be streaming it again this year. Here is the web address for live streaming.

Who is competing? Are the Fierce Five returning?
There is not a comprehensive list of athletes that are competing just yet. There are only two members of the Fierce Five that are returning: Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney. Jordyn Wieber is taking the summer off to for various reasons, her sister is graduating from med school. She just graduated high school and wants to attend graduation parties for her friends and what not. Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas just went back to the gym a few weeks ago and aren't ready yet. We can expect to see Olympic team alternate, Ebee Price, who won the Stuttgart World Cup and the Glasgow World Cup back in December. Ebee will be on the floor showing off her unique style she was showing off on her beam routine in the training camp videos. Also expected to make an appearance is American Cup Runner- Up Simone Biles, who is going to be throwing one of many in a string of Amanars. American Cup winner and the next hopeful in Valeri Liukin's champion factory, Katelyn Ohashi won't make an appearance as she is still recovering from surgery she had in April. McKayla and Kyla will be debuting their new floor routines. Also expect to see Brenna Dowell of GAGE and first year senior, Maggie Nichols.

More information to come later.
